ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan may interview the nominees for DG ISI before issuing a notification.
According to report published in The News, a source in the ministry familiar with the situation said that all the processes will be followed regarding the appointment of the new DG ISI, whose hiring is decided by the prime minister. The source “hinted” that Lt Gen Nadeem, the Karachi corps commander, is still the most likely choice for the post.
The country has been gripped in wild speculations and theories since the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum was announced by the ISPR last week.
The notification for this appointment, however, was to come from the prime minister’s office and when it didn’t, social media became ablaze with theories that the civilian and military administration was no longer on the same page — a popular phrase used to indicate the harmony between the two players.
A press conference by information minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday confirmed that the matter had not been resolved and its resolution lay, it seems, in adhering to the proper procedure. On Wednesday he said the consultation between Chief of Army Staff and PM Khan for the appointment had been complete.
Meanwhile, sources informed The Pakistan Daily that Prime Minister Imran Khan would hold a meeting with his party members in Parliament House today as tensions between the political and military leadership reach a boiling point.
