Petrol bombs, weapons recovered from Zaman Park: Punjab IG

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General Usman Anwar on Saturday said police found petrol bombs, weapons, catapults and other things from house of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan at Zaman Park in Lahore.

Addressing a press conference along with Caretaker Punjab Information Minister Aamir Mir in Lahore, the Punjab IG said the PTI activists had made bunkers in Zaman Park with sacks. He alleged that police officials including female cops were targeted by them.

The top Punjab police officer also alleged that petrol bombs were thrown on police and they also heard firing. He said they had videos of those who were arrested. He said police entered Zaman Park sans weapons today as well.

Usman Anwar said they would complete the action on order of courts. He said stones were rained on police today also as the miscreants attacked police and rangers personnel. He said they had addressed people’s complaint about making Zaman Park a no-go area.

“Neither Punjab Police have done anything wrong, nor would they do so. The elections have been announced and police are at service of the Election Commission of Pakistan and court,” he said.

Aamir Mir said the political party workers resisted during the Zaman Park operation and attacked police with petrol bombs. He said cases were also registered against the miscreant elements.

The inspector general said the high court had clearly said that it was prerogative of the police to hold investigation on merit. He said they prepared a report based on intelligence. Those who resisted were arrested, he added.

He alleged that weapons and instruments for making petrol bombs were recovered from Zaman Park.
