Petrol is within Rs4 of Rs384 — a tenth more expensive than it was nine days ago.
Why the pause could not hold
We wrote yesterday that a pause at $107.82 Brent was “a decision that becomes harder to repeat each day it is repeated”, because the input had risen while the output stayed flat.
Oil has climbed again on the Saudi pipeline outage and fresh attacks. Under a mechanism that passes international prices through daily, a gap between a rising input and a frozen output resolves in one direction.
What arrives alongside it
The ECC approved Rs75 billion in fuel relief on Monday for motorcyclists and cars up to 800cc — Rs500 a week and Rs1,000 per ten days respectively, through an SMS-based pass system.
For a motorcyclist at the 20-litre monthly cap, that is Rs2,000 a month. Today’s increase alone adds Rs4.42 to every litre they buy.
The relief was calculated when petrol was Rs375.82.
What is not established
OGRA has published no statement on the revision or on whether daily changes continue. The reporting does not indicate whether the relief amounts will be adjusted as prices move.
