ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday issued a show-cause notice to Channel 24 regarding senior journalist Najam Sethi’s statement.
According to the details, Sethi during his program Najam Sethi show, while explaining the debate within the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) said that the common person is devastated and opposition must protest aggressively.
Previously, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan set alight his electricity bill as part of his civil disobedience campaign against the government but that has been reported on mainstream media without any action from PEMRA.
Violent statements of Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed who is now the interior minister of Pakistan have also been broadcast but PEMRA didn’t take any action.
Meanwhile, the federal ministers lashed out at senior journalist Najam Sethi for inciting violence.
“Najam Sethi while inciting vandalism, arson and violence in the name of journalism stand exposed,” Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Farrukh Habib said in a statement.
“Where on the earth, a journalist incites violence,” he questioned.
