LONDON/ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman has agreed to change of venue for the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) Kashmir Day protest after a phone call by PML-N supremo, Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Fazlur Rehman had earlier stated that he would hold the protest at Rawalpindi’s Liaqat Bagh. He had also stated a desire for a protest in Pindi, allegedly to show Pakistan’s security establishment the street power of PDM, however, The Pakistan Daily can confirm that a PML-N delegation led by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and AJK PM Raja Farooq Haider met Maulana Fazl ur Rehman and requested to change the venue to Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest will be held on February 5.
This comes as tensions between the establishment and the PDM appear to simmer down, weeks after Maulana’s threat of marching to Rawalpindi.
DG ISPR had responded saying: “If at all they want to come, we will take care of them. Serve them tea [chai paani]. What more can I say”.
PDM’s threats of a long march was also diffused significantly after the PPP expressed reservations regarding the strategy.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has asked for a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan, to which Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the PDM would deliberate on this strategy together and show a united front in the political battle with Prime Minister Imran Khan.
