Heavy monsoon rain has pushed river levels up across Punjab, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to warn residents living along riverbanks to move immediately to safer ground (Daily Pakistan).
Low-level flooding has been recorded in the Indus at Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain, windstorms and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls across southern and central Pakistan, driven by a low-pressure area pulling monsoon currents inland. The system is bringing rain to Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Balochistan (Aaj English TV).
The department has specifically flagged a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Hyderabad and Sukkur, along with several other districts of Sindh (Aaj English TV).
The Chenab has been running in high flood as rain lashed Punjab and the Kashmir region (Dawn).
Karachi is forecast to receive light rain and drizzle over the next two days (The Express Tribune).
The warnings come with the national monsoon death toll at 107 and further rain expected in the upper parts of the country from July 29.
