ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Monday nominated newly-elected Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani as a joint candidate in the forthcoming Senate chairman election.
PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman chaired a meeting of PDM leaders at Sindh House in Islamabad which was attended by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and others.
PPP nominated Yousuf Raza Gilani for Senate chairman as PML-N and Awami National Party (ANP) also supported candidature from the platform of the Pakistan Democratic Movement.
While addressing the meeting, the PPP chairman said, “We were challenged to prove our numerical superiority in the Senate, in which we won.”
Bilawal also asked the question, “Think, where we would stand if we had boycotted the by-elections and Senate elections.”
Bilawal further said that: “The election of Chairman Senate is to be held in four days and we want our candidate to win the Senate chairman election to name another victory,” adding that the PPP is committed to PDM s roadmap.
Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Aftab Sherpao, Usman Kakar, newly elected Senator Sajid Mir, ANP s Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Senator Yousuf Raza Gilani, former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Raja Pervez Ashraf were also present during the meeting. The opposition allies also discussed the future PDM long march.

On the other side, the ruling party announced Sadiq Sanjrani for Senate Chairmanship.
