PCB has initiated efforts to nurture women cricketers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the leadership of Zaka Ashraf
In an encouraging move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday reached an agreement with the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University in Peshawar to promote women’s cricket.
Under the leadership of PCB Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf, PCB has initiated efforts to nurture women cricketers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with the aim of harnessing talent and promoting cricket in the region.
This move seeks to expand cricket across the province, providing improved opportunities for women in KP.
“PCB is taking the initiative to develop women cricketers in KP and get the talent. I am encouraging cricket in KP and spreading it across the province in order to give opportunities to women in the province,” Zaka Ashraf said.
Under the agreement, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University, Peshawar, will lease its cricket ground to PCB. This partnership aims to create a new cricket academy dedicated to promoting women’s cricket.
The objective of this partnership is to provide facilities and services to aspiring women cricketers by enabling access from the hostel facilities to the university to the cricket ground in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Head of Women’s Cricket, Tanya Malik said: “This exciting partnership with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University, Peshawar is in line with the PCB’s vision to promote the development of women’s cricket. The academy will serve as a hub for skills development as we are committed to seeing women’s cricket thrive in the region.”
Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University, also welcomed this initiative, expressing hope for cooperation with PCB to strengthen women’s cricket.
