Pakistan records highest single-day death toll from COVID-19

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday recorded 201 deaths due to Coronavirus making it the country’s highest death toll since the pandemic started last year.

This is the first time coronavirus death in the country have crossed the 200-mark.

As per the latest statistics of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the death toll in the country reached 17,329 with the latest surge.

Pakistan conducted 49,101 tests for coronavirus, out of which 5,292 returned positive. The country’s positivity rate has risen to 10.77%, with 88,207 active cases, while the number of recoveries nationwide has reached 704,494 so far.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), most deaths in the country were reported in Punjab followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last 24 hours.

Previously, the highest single-day death toll reported by the country was 157 on April 24, 2021.
