Openwav launched a new application, which is placed as a platform for an artist aiming to give musicians greater control of their career. Instead of relying on traditional flow services and intermediaries, the app offers a model directly to the race where artists can release music, sell goods, host pop-ups, organize a listening party and build communities in one place. The goal is to create a place where artists possess both their content and their audience while maintaining a larger share of revenue.
The company was officially introduced to the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in September 2025 by CEO Jaeson Ma and musician Wyclef Jean, who is now serving as head of music by OpenWav. Both claimed that the current music industry is weighted against artists, especially the newcomers who are struggling to create fair profits with the flow only.
Speaking in an interview with the Fortune Brainstorm Tech event, Wyclef Jean described the current system as unsustainable. ‘If you are a young artist, the amount of currents you need [accumulate] To get $ 10,000 is literally a rip-off. So now you have a constant uprising, “said Jean, he pointed out a recent example from Cardi B, which promoted her latest album with the sale of natural CDs and Vinyl Records on the road to a Tiktok video.
MA expanded to numbers during his own interview at the same conference, noting that “now in Spotify, for $ 3,000 you will have to hit 1 million currents”. He explained that the OpenWav model is built on the cultivation of “true fans” instead of hunting massive flow measurements. According to MA, if an artist builds an audience of 1,000 loyal listeners, each contributing $ 10 a month, could produce $ 120,000 a year. This, he said, would allow the musicians to maintain an independent career.
The Openwav Revenue System extends beyond musical flows. Ticket sales are separated for artists to maintain 80 % of the profits, while the platform lasts 20 %. The goods are offered through a Dropshipping model, which means that there are no advance costs for creators. It is important that artists also maintain ownership of their fans’ data, including communication data and community involvement channels.
Looking forward, Openwav plans to introduce AI tools to help artists with design, promoting and planning. MA called AI “your best friend as an artist”, emphasizing the ability to support both the creative and business aspects of a musician’s work. The application is currently available on iOS and Android and its founders believe it can reshape the way artists are linked to the public, while redefining a fairer share in industry profits.
