KHAIRPUR: One-Day Training Workshop on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Democracy and Climate Challenge was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur organized by the Young Peace Development Corp of University in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Pakistan and Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy (BSWA), Khairpur. Prof. Dr Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over the workshop while renowned Master Trainer Mr Iqbal Ahmed Detho Chairman of Sindh Human Rights Commission was the trainer of the workshop.
Talking to the participants of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said it is imperative to learn about the essence of human rights. This workshop will provide an ample opportunity to the students of our University beside the promotion of human rights, they will inculcate the ideals of democracy in the society. He said we are facing immense adverse impact of climate change globally but in our region its magnitude is high, we witnessed the flood havoc owing to negative aspect of the climate change.
Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Detho said that the core mandate of the Sindh Human Rights Commission is cited under Section (4) of the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act 2011 which empowers it to inquire into cases of “violation of human rights or abetment thereof, and negligence in the prevention of such a violation by a public servant. He also trained the students regarding the human rights education, climate challenges, democracy its sustainable efforts.
The 35 students of various institutes and departments availed the training. The Vice Chancellor distributed certificates among the trainees. Mr. Ali Raza Lashari, Incharge Students Societies Centre conducted the proceedings of the workshop.
