Police in Mumbai, India have made new discoveries in the investigation into the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.
Recent reports suggest that authorities suspect the perpetrator may be linked to one of the home’s staff members.
The staff member in question allegedly gave the intruder access to Saif’s Mumbai residence and is currently under questioning as police work to uncover more details about the shocking incident.
The attack took place at around 02:30 am when an unknown person barged into Saif’s house in Bandra. In trying to tackle the attacker, the 54-year-old actor suffered six stab wounds, two of which were deep, with one dangerously close to his spine. The assailant fled the scene before the authorities arrived.
Police revealed that CCTV footage from the actor’s residence failed to capture images of the attacker entering the premises within two hours before the attack.
However, investigators believe the attacker may have entered earlier in the day. In addition, authorities questioned workers who were working in the building at the time of the attack, as renovation work was underway.
After the attack he was rushed to Lilavati Hospital. He underwent surgery for his injuries and hospital officials confirmed that the full extent of the damage will only be clear after surgery. Despite the severity of his injuries, Saif’s team confirmed that he is now out of danger.
Saif’s children Ibrahim Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan were seen arriving at the hospital to be with their father. Saif’s family and team have asked for privacy during this time, while police continue their investigation into the break-in and the identity of the assailant.
