The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has raised electricity tariffs by Rs0.75 per unit across the country under the monthly fuel cost adjustment, citing the variation in fuel charges for June 2026 (Geo News).
The increase applies to all consumer categories of K-Electric and the ex-Wapda distribution companies, with the exception of lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations, and pre-paid electricity consumers across all categories who have opted for the pre-paid tariff.
Both the ex-Wapda Discos and K-Electric will reflect the June adjustment in bills issued for August 2026.
The regulator said the adjustment was made under the fourth proviso to sub-section 7 of Section 31 of the NEPRA Act, and that under federal government policy guidelines for applying uniform fuel cost adjustments, the same adjustment applies to K-Electric consumers over the same period.
The increase is more than double the previous month’s. Tariffs were raised by Rs0.34 per unit under the adjustment for May.
Fuel cost adjustments are passed through monthly and are separate from the annual base tariff determination, which is why bills can rise even in months when no base tariff change has been announced. Arriving in August bills, this one lands in the same week that Jamaat-e-Islami blocked highways nationwide over fuel prices and the petroleum levy — with the party demanding relief on exactly the pass-through mechanisms that continue to move in the other direction.
