Nawaz Sharif’s mother’s funeral held at London Central Mosque

LONDON: The Namaz e Janaza of Nawaz Sharif’s mother, Begum Shamim Akhtar was held at London Central Mosque in Regent’s Park at approximately 11 AM local time.

The funeral was attended by only 30 people, following the guidelines issued by the UK government.

Suleman Shehbaz Sharif, Dr Ashraf Chohan, Nasir Butt, Ishaq Dar and various other friends and family of Nawaz Sharif attended the funeral.

Begum Shamim was 89 when she passed away of natural causes at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Avenfield House on 22 November, 9.30 AM local time.

Her body is scheduled to reach Pakistan later today via a commercial flight.

Pakistan’s Leader of the Opposition, Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif will be allowed to attend Begum Shamim Akhtar’s funeral at Raiwand.

Punjab’s Home Department sources confirmed that both Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz Sharif who were in police custody would be granted a special parole of 5 days.

Begum Shamim Akhtar would be buried in the Sharif Family graveyard in Jati Umran, besides her husband, Mian Sharif.

Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif shared an emotional scene of her father, bidding the final farewell to his mother.

Previously, a controversy was made when the Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab on Information, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan used extremely objectionable language towards Begum Shamim Akhtar, disregarding Islamic traditions.
