Nawaz Sharif ‘rejects’ COAS Bajwa’s report, reminisces past ISPR snub
LONDON/RAWALPINDI: In a move that has shocked political observers worldwide, Former Prime Minister, Mian Nawaz Sharif has rejected COAS Gen Bajwa’s report on the kidnapping of IG Sindh on the eve of the hotel room fiasco in Karachi.
Maryam Nawaz’s room was broken into and her husband, Captain Safdar was arrested in the middle of the night. This move was highly resisted by the Sindh Police because it had been alleged that their IG was kidnapped by the ISI sector commander alongside Rangers personnel in the wee hours of the night.
This led to mass resignations by Sindh Police which were halted only after Gen Bajwa promised to look into the matter.
Upping the ante in his fight against the military establishment, Nawaz Sharif left no stone unturned when he tweeted, “Inquiry report on Karachi incident is a cover-up scapegoating juniors & shielding the real culprits. Report “Rejected”.
This caused people to reminisce a previous public snub by the Inter-Services Public Relations during the previous Nawaz government when the DG ISPR of that time, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor used the same term, ‘rejected’ on the government’s inquiry in the Dawn Leaks controversy.
While the PPP has welcomed the report, the PML-N has chosen the path of resistance and decided to expose the narrative of “state above a state” in Pakistan.
Speaking to reporters in London, Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain said, “Nawaz Sharif’s tweet is the perspective of PML-N”.
