Pakistani actor Muneeb Butt sat down for a candid chat with podcast host Uzair Hasan Sapiens experience where he delved into his motivations, family life and political beliefs. The episode, which tried to delve into Muneeb’s life outside the world of showbiz, surprisingly ventured into his multifaceted acting experience on TV, including his upcoming drama Mohabbat Aik Saza.
While the actor has taken on different characters such as an intersex commissioner Sar e Raah or embodying an ambitious young man within Qalanderchanneled the unique character of Christian Gray from the Fifty Shades franchise for his latest acting endeavor.
During the conversation, he revealed how the director suggested he watch Fifty Shades of Gray to prepare for Mohabbat Aik Saza. “When I was offered the character and I was talking to the director he told me that it’s a very mature character, unlike anything I’ve played before,” the actor said.
Muneeb shared how his past roles ranged from a college boy to his character Qalandar where he also portrayed a young man of 25-26 years old. “If you remember my dramas, I have mostly played the ‘hero’s age’ between 25 and 28,” the actor shared.
With Mohabbat Aik Saza, the protagonist is somewhere between 35 and 37 years old, the actor said, pointing out the different attitudes required to portray that age. “I’m actually three to four years younger than this character. It’s easier to take on a role younger than you because you’ve already been through those years.”
He continued, “Acting beyond your age is comparatively more difficult because you don’t know how you will be in a few years from now.” Revealing how the presenters were initially confused as to whether he would be able to pull it off or not, Muneeb explained how he watched a lot of movies and shows to practice.
“The director recommended me to watch Fifty Shades of Gray,” he shared with a laugh, recalling his question about the adult romance film. “I started watching it and halfway through, I called him and said, ‘Should I do this?’ he said.
In response, the director encouraged him to notice how the actor in the film portrayed their character with a certain grace and advised him to incorporate this into his own performance. “He told me to focus on the performance, not the practice. Then I watched the film from that perspective.”
