Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq said his advice is being ignored by captain Babar Azam and coach Mickey Arthur on the team’s spin bowling strategy ahead of the World Cup.
While speaking to a local sports channel, Misbah expressed his concerns, pointing out the abysmal performance of spinners Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz, even from Asia Cup 2023.
“The spin bowling was the biggest problem, it was out of shape and you had to find ways to sort it out. The performance of Shadab and Nawaz was not convincing in the Asia Cup either. When you were leaving for the World Cup and things were under your control, you should have kept an extra thread,” Misbah said.
The former captain highlighted the crucial role that spin bowling plays, especially in sub-continental conditions, and suggested that the team management should have taken steps to strengthen this aspect of their game.
He expressed frustration with the decision-making process, suggesting his advice was ignored by the team’s leadership.
“Management was in that sense that we are carrying a team for more than a year. The management included captain, coach and team manager,” Misbah added, shedding light on the perspective the team had developed during their preparations. .
It is worth noting that Pakistan, with four wins and as many losses, are facing a precarious situation in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023. To secure a place in the semi-finals, Pakistan need to finish their campaign with 10 points. However, their sheer rate of operation is a significant challenge.
With Pakistan on the verge of being eliminated from the 2023 World Cup, the pressure is mounting on the team to secure a decisive win against England.
