LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz President Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif have been released on a 5 day parole to attend the funeral of Shehbaz Sharif’s mother, Begum Shamim Akhtar.
The PMLN had earlier requested for a 2 week parole for both Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz so that the family could properly attend the visitors who were expected to come from all across Pakistan but the Punjab government only issued a parole for 5 days.
Whilst meeting her uncle, Mian Shehbaz Sharif, Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that she felt like she had met her father, Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier, the Namaz e Janaza of Begum Shamim Akhtar was read at the London Central Mosque and was attended by Mian Nawaz Sharif, his sons Hasan and Hussain and various other family and friends of Nawaz Sharif.
Begum Shamim Akhtar will be buried in the Sharif Family graveyard in Jati Umra, alongside her husband Mian Sharif.
In 2004, both Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shehbaz Sharif were unable to attend the funeral of their father Mian Sharif after they rejected a conditional offer by Gen Pervaiz Musharraf. Both brothers were in exile in Saudi Arabia during that time.
