Matt Damon makes shocking claim about ‘cancellation culture’

Matt Damon has made his feelings on the subject of “cancellation culture” clear, describing the movement as metaphorically worse than prison.

While appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast for promotion The Riphis upcoming film with ben affleck, o Bourne Identity The star shared his comments after the show’s host presented his own analysis of the ‘cancellation’.

The infamous media personality described the experience as “this idea that one thing you said or one thing you did, and now we’re going to overdo it to the max and banish you from civilization for life.”

To that, Damon replied: “In perpetuity. Because I bet some of these people would rather go to jail for 18 months or whatever, then come out and say, ‘I paid my debt.’ Well, we’re done. Like, can we finish?”

“The thing that’s kind of frowned upon, publicly like that, it just never ends. And it’s the first thing that… you know, it’s just going to follow you to the grave,” he added.

While the Oscar-winner’s career has never been derailed by the radical movement, it’s worth noting that he has caused major backlash a few times in the past.

Damon, 55, was a frequent collaborator of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, who was also behind his breakthrough film. Good Will Hunting.

While quickly dissociated from the currently jailed movie mogul, the actor was additionally criticized for his ignorance regarding the use of sexually insensitive slurs.

In a 2021 interview with The Sunday Timesthe Netflix star had admitted he stopped using the F-slur “months ago” after a detailed discussion with his daughter.

He later clarified his comments in a statement, saying: “I have never called anyone a ‘f*****’ in my personal life and this conversation with my daughter was not a personal wake-up call. I do not use slurs of any kind.”
