Matric, intermediate exams in Sindh to be held from July-August: Saeed Ghani

KARACHI: Sindh will hold matric examinations from July 1 onwards and intermediate examinations from July 28, provincial education minister Saeed Ghani said Saturday.

He was announcing the decisions made during a meeting of the steering committee regarding reopening of schools and universities after months-long closure of educational institutions amid prevalent coronavirus pandemic.

Schedule

June: practical exams
July 1 to July 15: matric exams
July 28 to August 16: intermediate exams
September 15: results of matric exams

Exams for students of pre-primary to class eight will be conducted in June.

Strict standard operating procedures will be implemented to limit the spread of coronavirus, Ghani said.

‘Corona cases in Sindh colleges’

Ghani said that coronavirus tests of 7,000 college teachers were conducted, out of whom 233 tested positive, while the results of 1,506 cases are awaited.

‘Change in paper format following COVID situation’

The Sindh education department has decided to change the format of the exams too, the provincial minister said.

Students will appear for two-hour long exams now as opposed to the previous three-hour time.

MCQs will be given 50% weightage, while 30% weightage will be given to short questions and 20% to long questions.

‘New Academic Year’

Ghani said the new academic year for public sector educational institutions will start from August 2, 2021.

Summer vacations, he said, will be in July.
