Superstar Mahira Khan, the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), took to social media and shared her two cents on the ongoing crackdown on Afghan refugees in the country.
In recent weeks, there has been a growing spotlight on the widespread displacement of Afghan refugees from Pakistan, causing substantial concern from human rights organizations and influential figures about the treatment of these uprooted individuals. Meanwhile, notable personalities and celebrities have also raised their voices in response to the unfolding situation.
Mahira, who previously made headlines for working with the aforementioned refugees, shared her view on the matter and raised her voice against the crackdown. “Nobody leaves their home by choice,” Mr Verna shared actor. “Here in Pakistan, I am proud of our tradition of hospitality to those who seek safety, dignity and respect. For more than 40 years we have provided safety to our Afghan brothers and sisters in need.”
He added, “There are people who still need our kindness and compassion, who are at risk if they return. I appeal to my government to continue to support those who need it.”
Previously, the Bin Roye The actor took to social media to remind everyone of the plight of refugees and the nation that gives many of them a home. “They were denied a home, but we did not deprive them of hope,” Mahira wrote.
He continued, “Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees for several years and continues to do so, we have given them a home in our homeland.” A UNHCR video was attached along with the tweet, with Mahira recounting Pakistan’s assistance to Afghan refugees over the past 40 years.
