Lebanon is expected to keep the funeral of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Sunday, almost five months after his death in Israeli aviation.

The funeral ceremony will take place at 1 pm (11:00 GMT) at the Camille Chamoun Athletic Stadium, located on the outskirts of Beirut, with tens of thousands expected to attend, including supporters from Hezbollah Strongholds across Lebanon and abroad.

Nasrallah, who was killed on September 27 on an Israeli air surface, while meeting the commanders in a bunker in the southern suburbs of Beirut, will be buried next to his son, Hadi, who died for Hezbollah in 1997.

Lebanon authorities have announced strict security measures for the event and Beirut Airport will close from noon to 4 pm (14:00 GMT) to host the large crowd.

The funeral will also honor Hashem Safieddine, who briefly led Hezbollah after the death of Nasrala and who was also killed by Israel.

Safieddine will be buried separately in southern Lebanon on Monday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and several Iraqi leaders are expected to attend, with Iraqi Airways adding additional flights to meet the demand for travel to Beirut.

Last October, a source near the team had said AFP that Nasrallah had been buried in a secret location because Israel’s fear would aim for a big funeral.

The deeply religious Safieddine, a family -friendly clergyman with Nasrallah, was widely regarded as the most likely candidate for the party’s top job.

Safieddine, a member of the Group Shura Board of Directors, had strong ties with Iran after religious studies in the sacred city of Islamic Republic.

During his speech on Sunday, Qassem also pressured the Lebanese authorities to push Israel to stop violating the ceasefire.

The Israeli army has lost a deadline on January 26 to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon and has since begun strikes there. Now he has been withdrawing until February 18th.

Israel had made it clear that it had no intention of arising out the original deadline, charging that the Lebanese army had not fulfilled the end of the agreement.
