Gold
Gold now stands at Rs453,336 a tola, down Rs3,800. Ten grams fell Rs3,257 to Rs388,749, silver was Rs6,869, and the international price fell $38 to $4,309 an ounce.
Both the tola and ten-gram figures reconcile exactly against Thursday’s Rs457,236.
Yesterday’s spike has been given back
Gold rose Rs7,900 on Thursday, the largest single-session move this newspaper had recorded this month. It has now returned Rs3,800 of it in one day.
That is consistent with a haven trade unwinding as the oil price falls and Saudi Arabia signals it can restore pipeline capacity — the same news that took Brent down for a third day.
A note on gold sources
A general search this morning returned a 24-karat tola rate of about Rs451,500 attributed to “APGJSA-linked rate data”, alongside a ten-gram figure that implied a different tola price altogether. The figure above is the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association rate as published by an outlet naming it, and it is the one that reconciles both against the previous session and against its own ten-gram price.
Friday, with the caveat
At midday on Friday the index was at 170,865.77, up 1,822.58 points. That is intraday, not a close.
What is not established
Friday’s close will not be known until after the bell. No turnover figures were published for Thursday, and no analyst explanation for the equity moves was reported.
