Ke Consumers to receive Rs4.69/Unit relief in April
Listen to the article

Islamabad:

K-Electric (KE) consumers are going to receive relief of RS4.69 per unit under the adjustment of fuel costs (FCA) for April 2025.

This will be translated into a total benefit of RS7.13 billions for KE consumers, led by a reduction in fuel prices used to produce electricity during the month. Relief will be granted as a temporary monthly FCA.

Initially, Ke had requested a temporary FCA negative RS4.55/KWH for April 2025. Later, he revised the claim for negative RS4.69/kWh, calculated on the basis of March 2023’s temporary reference invoice.

The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will take a public hearing on June 19 to decide on KE’s report to reduce the power invoice.

According to Note-2 of the Annex-A (Calculation Sheet), KE submitted that after determining the production invoices for power plants for the period after June 2023, it provided the required information on partial load, open cycle, degradation curves and starting costs for approval. An amount of 16 billion Rs, covering the period from July 2023 to April 2025, is still pending. In addition, the heat rate settings associated with the previous perennial invoice (MYT) for BQPS-III and KCCP-up to RS0.6 billion and RS0.2 billion respectively-are also closed.

Of the total RS16 billions, RS15.2 billion has already been allocated by Nepra to KE’s FCA decisions for November 2024 to March 2025.

Ke has also asked power to consider these pending real fuel cost adjustments, so recovery can be made by negative fluctuations in March and April 2025. The aim is to ensure that consumers are not burdened with future debt.

During the hearing, Nepra will discuss whether the FCA requested is justified and whether Ke has followed the value order when sending power from its own plants while buying from external sources.
