Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has expressed his dismay at the negative reactions of Pakistan fans after India lost to Australia in the final of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 on Sunday.
Expressing his dismay at the negative reactions from some quarters, particularly from Pakistan, Pathan condemned the unsportsmanlike behaviour, stressing that such behaviors reflect badly on the mentality of these individuals.
“Although the U19 team did not reach the final, the keyboard warriors from the border are taking pleasure in the defeat of our youngsters. This negative attitude does not reflect badly on the mentality of their country.” Irfan wrote on his social media platform, X.

Australia dominated all three sections of the pitch to defeat India by 79 runs in the final of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 in Benoni.
Opting to bat first after the win, Australian captain Hugh Weibgen’s decision proved fruitful as his team posted a total of 253/7, their highest ever total in an U19 World Cup final.
Harjas Singh’s fifties and valuable contributions from Weibgen, Harry Dixon and Ollie Peak propelled Australia’s innings, with Raj Limbani the standout for India with figures of 3/38.
In reply, India’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing key points early and struggling to build momentum against a disciplined Australian bowling attack. Despite a late surge from Abhishek Murugan, who fought valiantly with the bat, the target proved insurmountable as Australia sealed victory in the 44th over.
