Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to the emergency unit of Apollo Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday, February 10, after he felt unwell. The Indian Express. The hospital later issued a medical report and Mithun’s elder son Mimoh shared in an update that “He is 100% fine and it is a routine check-up.”
The statement issued by Apollo Hospital read, “Shri Mithun Chakraborty (73), a National Award winning actor, was brought to the Emergency Department of Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata at around 9.40 am. with complaints of weakness in the right upper and lower limbs. The necessary laboratory and radiological investigations were carried out, including an MRI of the brain.”
The statement further read, “He has been diagnosed with Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke). At present, he is fully conscious, well oriented and has consumed a bland diet. Shri Chakraborty is being further evaluated by a team of doctors including a neurologist, a cardiologist and a gastroenterologist”.
A prominent figure in the film industry since 1976, Mithun has received many prestigious awards including the National Award. Known for his roles in iconic films such as Disco Dancer, Jung, Prem Pratigyaa, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, and MardMithun’s contributions have left a lasting impact.
Recently honored as one of the 2024 Padma Bhushan awardees, Mithun expressed his joy and gratitude through his son Namashi’s social media. He shared, “I am very happy, full of joy. The feeling of receiving such an honor, having achieved everything, is something I cannot express. When such a major recognition comes after a lot of hardship, the feeling is something else,” Mithun said.
“Thank you all for so much love and respect. And I dedicate this award to all my fans in India and around the world. To all those who have given me selfless love, to my well-wishers, I dedicate this to all. Thank you for giving me so much love and respect,” added the actor.
In July 2023, Mithun’s mother Santirani Chakraborty died in Mumbai due to geriatric problems. Mithun’s father Basantokumar Chakraborty also died in April 2020 at the age of 95 due to kidney failure.
