LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has called a meeting of the party’s legal experts and senior leadership to discuss the no-confidence move filed by the opposition against Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi.
A delegation of the PPP and PML-N provincial lawmakers submitted a no-confidence motion against Mr Elahi, Speaker Sibtain Khan, and deputy speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi in the Punjab Assembly on Monday in a bid to prevent the dissolution of the assembly. The PTI chief last week announced that the assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be disbanded on Dec 23.
PPP Parliamentary Leader Hassan Murtaza, PML-N’s Khawaja Imran Nazir, and PML-N Chief Whip Tahir Khalil Sindhu submitted the no-confidence motion to the Punjab Assembly Secretary Inayatullah.
The resolution stated, “Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi should seek another vote of confidence from the Punjab Assembly because he has lost the support of the House”.
Following the submission of the no-confidence motion, Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman summoned a session of the Punjab Assembly for the chief minister Punjab to seek vote of confidence on Dec 21.
