RAWALPINDI: An illegal raid was conducted at the residence of former Law Minister Punjab, Raja Basharat by a disproportionate number of armed personnel.
Only women and children were present during the raid as police searched for Raja Basharat and Raja Nasir. No arrest or search warrant was shown to the family members.
Family members shared videos showing acts of vandalism and destruction conducted by the police including breaking furniture and windows to cause terror.
Tweeting on the occasion, Raja Basharat said: “Once again this fascist govt has raided my residence with heavy deployment & some ‘na-maloom afraad’ in civilian clothes. They wrecked havoc in the house & looted our belongings. How many times do I need to reiterate that you cannot stop an idea whose time has come.”
The Pakistan Daily‘s Editor, Hamza Azhar Salam also condemned the incident in the strongest terms.
“Police raided my sister’s home which is the residence of former Law Minister Punjab, @RajaBasharatLAW. Only women & children were inside as police broke windows, took phones, laptops from people who have nothing to do with politics. We will not forget @OfficialDPRPP,” Hamza Azhar Salam said.
Human Rights Activist, Imaan Mazari also took to Twitter to condemn the illegal raid.
Government officials reached out to The Pakistan Daily and expressed solidarity with the family of its Editor who became a victim of state oppression.
Journalist organisations across Pakistan plan to protest against such fascist tactics which target the homes of political opponents in which innocent and apolitical family members are targetted.
