ICC T20 World Cup: Pakistan beats Bangladesh by 5 wickets

ADELAIDE: Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in their final Super 12 encounter on Sunday by five wickets to book their berth in the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Shaheen Afridi’s four-wicket haul helped put Pakistan in the box seat for victory against Bangladesh.

Afridi looked back his brilliant best with impressive figures of 4/22 at Adelaide Oval as Bangladesh could manage just 127/8 in good batting conditions.

The Pakistan speedster got the key wicket of Litton Das (10) with the new ball, before returning at the death to ensure Bangladesh posted a below-par score.

Bangladesh had made a strong start to move through to 73/1 in the 11th over, but two wickets in consecutive balls from Shadab Khan – including the key scalp of Shakib Al Hasan for a golden duck – quickly turned the momentum.

Shakib’s dismissal and some poor batting in the latter overs meant Pakistan were in a strong position to register the victory and clinch a spot in the semi-finals.
