Hamid Mir apologises for his remarks, reiterates respect for Pak Army

ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Hamid Mir has apologised for the remarks he made outside the National Press Club in Islamabad in the aftermath of the attack on journalist Asad Ali Toor.

Mir had threatened to reveal the personal details of the people who were behind attacks on journalists if journalists were continued to be attacked in their homes.

“I respect the army as an institution. I have closely witnessed the sacrifices of my army brothers from Siachen to the Line of Control and from Fata to Baluchistan and considered it my pride to provide them coverage. My intention was not to hurt anyone’s feelings but for the hurt caused by my words, I apologise from the bottom of my heart,” Mir said in a statement to Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ).

Taking to Twitter, Hamid Mir said: “Statement was given to a joint committee of 3 journalists bodies defending me everywhere. I never gave this statement to Geo management because I never used their platform. Still demanding to arrest culprits involved in attacks against journalists.”

Mir had been taken off air from his hit show, Capital Talk in the aftermath of the speech. It is unclear if Hamid Mir will return on air after this apology.
