Federal Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan held a detailed meeting with President China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), DU Fei, during his visit to Tianjin. The focus was on the extension of Chinese investments in Pakistan’s road infrastructure.

The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation on road development, special projects such as the Mansehra-Naran-Jhal Kand motorway. Investment opportunities, technical assistance and future cooperation were also examined, he said a statement issued on Friday.

Fei explained that CRBC, a large Chinese state -owned business, operates in more than 70 countries throughout Asia, Europe, America and Africa. He expressed interest in expanding businesses in Pakistan and described it as a honor to contribute to his infrastructure.

Between 1995 and 2023, CRBC participated in key projects such as the Sukkur bypass, the Karakoram highway and the coastal road of Karachi. Since last year, it has shown interest in new businesses such as the ML-1 railway project, Pakistani refinery upgrades, expansion of Lahore Airport and the Raikot-Takot highway.

Aleem Khan assured CRBC full support and welcomed his role in strengthening Pakistan’s road infrastructure.

At another meeting, the minister met with senior officials from the Asian Investment Bank Investment Bank (AIIB), including the head of investment director Konstantin Limitovskiy and the general public sector of Director Xiaohong Yang. Introduced M-6 Sukkur-Hyderabad and M-9 Karachi-Hyderabad as investment options.

He said that these projects link the commercial hubs to the port of Karachi and are vital to economic growth. The development of road infrastructure is a top government priority, he added.

The minister said Aiib’s cooperation could accelerate the development of Pakistan. He noted that Pak-China friendship supports regional connectivity and prosperity.

He also said that many Chinese financial institutions are already funding infrastructure projects in Pakistan. Aleem Khan confirmed the government’s goal of attracting more foreign road investment and connectivity. He said that infrastructure investments lead to job creation and economic growth.

Senior AIIB officials expressed interest in supporting Pakistan’s development initiatives and expressed hope for positive results from discussions.
