Islamabad: The federal government has decided to provide relief to electricity bills for people in flood -affected areas, with multiple tax exemptions under consideration.

Federal Minister of Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, speaking Geo NewsHe said the taxes on electricity bills that meet the floods would resign immediately. He added that while the federal government will provide relief from electricity charges, provincial governments will take measures to resign from land revenue.

He noted that the authorities would also be aware of the inflated accounts issued in flood -affected areas, explaining that many accounts had already been printed before the disaster. The minister emphasized that every possible step would be taken into account to facilitate the burden of affected citizens.

Rana Tanveer said that as soon as the investigations of flood -affected areas were completed, the government will announce a package of farmers. He explained that the investigation is expected to be completed by the middle of this month and that preliminary data on crop losses have already been drawn up.

According to the minister, between 1% and 3% of each crop has been damaged by the floods, with the Gujranwala department suffering from the most serious blow, to 18% of destroyed crops. He added that the rice fields had taken the heavier damage overall.

Sources have reported that proposals include the abolition of general sales tax, the increase in funding costs (FC) and fixed electricity bills. The government also weighs the removal of sales tax and excise duty to adjust fuel prices, while eliminating income tax, additional and surplus taxes and retail sales tax from accounts.

The proposal comes as the country ranges from the second devastating monsoon flooding in three years.

Since late June, more than 900 people have died, more than 1,400 villages have been flooded with Punjab and over a million residents have been displaced, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
