
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has invoked Article 245 and called in the army to protect the Red Zone shortly before Imran Khan is due to arrive in D Chowk for the Haqeeqi Azadi March.
Article 245 (1) of the Consitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan states: “The Armed Forces shall, under the directions of the Federal Government, defend Pakistan against external aggression or threat of war, and, subject to law, act in aid of civil power when called upon to do so.”
Taking to Twitter, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah wrote: “The Federal Government is pleased to authorize deployment of sufficient strength of troops of Pakistan Army in Red Zone under Article 245.”

According to the order signed by Joint Secretary Mohammad Ramzan, the army has been called to protect sensitive installations like the President House, Parliament, PM’s Office/House, Pakistan Secretariat, Diplomatic Enclave and the PTV HQ.
In PTI’s 2014 Dharna, the PTI alongside Tahir ul Qadri’s workers attacked PTV Headquarters, after orders from Imran Khan.
In a leaked phone call, Arif Alvi who currently serves as the President can be heard briefing Imran Khan regarding the attack on PTV Headquarters.
Imran Khan’s convoy is expected to arrive in D Chowk shortly where thousands of supporters await his arrival.
At least 8 Islamabad Policemen and 7 Rangers have been injured by PTI protestors who pelted stones on the police.
PTI supporters also burnt trees and the China Chowk Metro Station in Islamabad.
Imran Khan has stated that he will not end the Haqeeqi Azaadi March until the date for fresh elections is announced.
