Government Assures IMF of Meeting First Quarter Tax Target

The government has assured the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that it will meet the first quarter tax target set by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), officials said on Tuesday.

During talks between Pakistan and the IMF on the fourth economic review, the government gave assurances of achieving the FBR’s fixed tax target of Rs3,053 billion for the first quarter.

FBR officials have assured that not only will the collection target of Rs1,330 billion for September be achieved, but the overall tax target for the first quarter from July to September 2026 will also be met.

It is noteworthy that for tax year 2026, approximately 4.7 million income tax returns have been received so far, compared to 3.2 million returns collected during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, federal government officers from grade 17 to 22 will have to submit their asset declarations electronically by October 30, 2026. Under the new legal framework, limited information regarding the assets of federal government officers will be released to the public by December 31, 2026.
