Goldberg believes John Cena’s heel turns to WWE reflects Hulk Hogan’s WCW dramatic shift – and says he once put a similar idea, but destroyed it.
Speech Ariel Helwani ShowGoldberg weighed John Cena’s recent turn and compared it with two of the most virtual transitions of the fight with a wrestling: Hogan on the WCW and what could be his.
WWE Hall of Famer revealed that WCW had once been approaching him to turn the heel during a story about Hacksaw Jim Duggan, but rejected the stadium.
“The fact is that I think Price’s series is more comparable to Hogan’s turn,” Goldberg said. “I could have done the same thing, but I refused. Then I didn’t know the business, but for me, it meant more about the kid make-a-quish in my closet on the night I struggling Hacksaw Jim Duggan.”
Goldberg mentioned the emotional burden of his baby’s character, especially with fans facing personal battles, such as the reason he could not go through the story at that time.
“For the business, it would be freaking unparalleled, like what they do with Price, I believe,” he added.
Reflecting his role in the WCW, Goldberg said he saw himself as the original make-a-quish figure in the struggle, long before Price made it a bit of his legacy.
“I was the Make-A-Wish dude before Price did his thing on WWE,” Goldberg said. “I’ll break your face in the ring, but then I’ll keep your baby and smile out.
Goldberg praised Price’s recent shift, calling “Freaking Fabulous”, and applauding Price’s understanding of its importance. He noted that he was never approached again for a heel turn during his WCW Run, but said he might be more open to the idea later in his career.
“Bravo to all of them,” Goldberg concluded. “And Bravo to John – He’s smart enough to understand how monumental he would be.”
Goldberg also said he “guarantees” to have the retirement race in 2025.
