Maryam Nawaz claims that Nawaz Sharif was removed on false allegations
LAHORE: PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa was now saying what he had been saying years ago. “Youngsters, the chief of army staff, General Bajwa is repeating the same words which I said 10-20 years ago,” the former premier said.
Mian Nawaz Sharif was referring to Gen Bajwa’s recent speech in which he said that Pakistan needed to put it’s house back in order. He also criticised the current rulers and lamented on their corruption.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz claimed that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif “refused to resign” after which he was removed with the Panama Papers case “on a small iqama technicality”.
Addressed a youth convention in Lahore, PMLN VP said that “He (Nawaz Sharif) was removed in 2017 on false allegations,” adding that “Even today when they have to strike against Nawaz Sharif, they have to arrest his brother and summon his daughter before NAB in political cases.”
Maryam said that they are out to “remove her from the equation” — amid Nawaz Sharif living abroad — with the aim that “maybe the anti-government movement will be weakened this way”.
Maryam added that it is “now time to stop giving sacrifices and to hold the government accountable”.
On the recent move by the NAB to request the revocation of her bail based on her political activity, Maryam said that after exhausting all other ways of silencing her and failing, the government is using NAB to accuse her of “speaking against institutions.”
Maryam also clarifies that “She is not speaking out against institutions. You are only sore because she is exposing you.”
“I want to ask and so do the youth. Who has contracted NAB to assess political statements?” she asked.
She further criticised the NAB saying that they do not even have a shred of evidence against her. If they had any evidence they would have presented it in court rather than shamefully declaring that they wanted the bail cancelled because she is making political statements.
Maryam Nawaz added that NAB is “sore that their master Imran Khan is being exposed in front of everyone for robbing the people of wheat, sugar, gas, electricity and their votes”.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement’s long march was interestingly scheduled that same day — it has since been postponed — and Maryam also referred to this. “The have summoned me the very day the long march was (previously) scheduled.”
“I am not like Imran Khan with an armed police guard standing outside for a getaway by climbing over the wall,” PMLN VP said.
