Food Panda’s delivery boy gets bullet in leg for demanding bill

LAHORE: A food delivery boy was shot in the leg instead of receiving the bill in Lahore on Thursday.

According to the details, Food Panda’s 32-year-old delivery boy, Altaf Hussain, a resident of Chauburji, delivered a food order to Moazzam Khokhar at his residence in Punjab Society and when he asked for the food bill Mr Khokhar shot him in the leg, said police.

Police said the accused flew into a rage after the delivery boy sought the payment for the food order.

The doctor said Altaf Hussain’s right knee was injured badly by the gunshot and they had to operate on him to remove the bullet.

Altaf Hussain’s family said the police have neither registered a case nor arrested the accused.

Earlier, a security guard of MQM MPA Khawaja Izharul Hassan shot a Foodpanda rider for ringing the doorbell of the politician’s house in Karachi’s Defense Saturday afternoon.

According to Darakhshan SHO Irfan, Hassan’s family placed an order through the app. When Nadeem reached the location, he rang the doorbell of the house, which is located on Khayaban-e-Badar.

“Suddenly, an armed man in a civil uniform appeared and demanded I hand over the parcel to him,” the victim told the police. When Nadeem refused and rang the bell again, the guard pointed his gun at the rider and started hurling abuses at him.

“When the victim refused to hand him the order for the third time, the suspect opened fire at him and escaped,” SHO Irfan said.

A police team immediately reached the crime site and cordoned off the area, Karachi South SSP Zubair Nazir told SAMAA Digital. Nadeem was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he has been declared to be out of danger. He was shot in the knee, the doctors said.

The police have obtained CCTV footage of the crime and have recorded the victim’s statement.

“Nadeem is being treated in a private hospital under my personal supervision,” MPA Hassan said in a statement. “No effort will be spared in the treatment of injured boy Nadeem. During the treatment, his salary and medicine will be my responsibility.”

He claimed that his government police guards were not involved in the firing. “The delivery boy had left home with the money without any dispute. I was told that the incident might be a testament to the personal bitterness of the accused and the delivery boy.”

Hassan remarked that the firing occurred in front of his flat which was tragic for him and his family.
