NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has underscored the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan for regional security and prosperity.
Talking to his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, he underlined the need for the international community to remain engaged with Afghanistan to prevent the emergence of humanitarian and economic crises in the country.
The two leaders agreed to remain closely engaged on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
Earlier, talking to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reiterated the need for continued joint global efforts to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the threat of an influx of refugees.
He said unconditional support from the international community is essential to get Afghanistan out of the humanitarian crisis.
On the occasion, UN High Commissioner for Refugees lauded Pakistan’s role in hosting four million Afghan refugees over the past four decades.
