LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Fawad Chaudhry calls on Supreme Court to end the Punjab caretaker govt on 22 April.
In a tweet, he said, “The term of the caretaker government cannot be extended by moving the date of the election forward. The caretaker government cannot go beyond the third week of April. All decisions of ministers will be unconstitutional”
Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry said the ruling parties should hold discussions on national elections instead of confronting the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
In a tweet, the former federal minister welcomed the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and assurance of the Punjab government to implement the court’s verdict, calling it a step in the right direction.
Fawad Chaudhry said that the severity of the economic crisis necessitate reducing the political temperature in the country.
The statement comes after the ECP held a consultative meeting and released the election schedule to conduct the polls on May 14 in Punjab.
The PTI hailed the top court’s verdict to hold elections to Punjab Assembly on May 14 and said the verdict has buried the doctrine of necessity for good.
The party’s chief has also called for celebrations and urged the people to gather on roads on Wednesday and mark the day as ‘Yaum-e-Tashakkur’.
In a late-night video address, Imran Khan said he was vindicated by the court’s decision. He said the Supreme Court’s decisions are protected by the nation.
Referring to his decision to dissolve Punjab and KP assemblies, he said even his party’s lawmakers and leaders weren’t fully on board with the decision.
