Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has analyzed Pakistan’s performance in the ongoing World Cup 2023, identifying two players who he believes have let the team down.
In a recent interview with Cricbuzz, Karthik highlighted the distinctive pattern used by the Pakistan cricket team, acknowledging that while it may differ from that of teams like Australia or England, it does not necessarily imply a flawed approach.
However, he highlighted one crucial factor that he felt contributed to Pakistan’s struggle – their lack of form with the ball.
“They have a standard that other teams probably don’t follow, like in Australia or England, but that doesn’t mean they have a bad standard, what has been happening is the lack of form with the ball showing. Haris Rauf was a huge loss for them, he was someone who was touted as the most important bowler who could bowl in the middle overs, pick up wickets and at the death but he leaked a lot of runs in his first and second spells and then he was Shadab Khan, he was the biggest loss for them in this tournament, he just couldn’t get wickets, he was a pale shadow of his past and that really showed why Pakistan struggled,” said Dinesh Karthik.
Haris Rauf, who is currently experiencing a dip in form during the ongoing ICC mega-event, has faced challenges in maintaining his bowling performance.
In eight matches, he has secured 13 wickets but conceded 469 runs at an economy rate of 6.79. As such, he is the second highest run conceding bowler in the tournament.
It is worth noting that the Men in Green are currently fifth in the mega-event table with four wins and four losses and to reach the semi-final they will need to beat England by around 287 runs while batting first or with around 284 balls at your disposal while chasing the target.
