In order to review the coronavirus situation in the country and finalize a date for reopening of educational institutions, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood has summoned an meeting of the provincial health and education ministers on Friday, 15 January (tomorrow).
Taking to microblogging site, Twitter, the minister said that the COVID-19 situation has to be reviewed before the students go back to school.
He wrote, “Education and Health Ministers meeting again tomorrow to review the coronavirus situation before students start coming to school.”
He continued writing, “While I desperately want education to continue, the final decision will be on health grounds. Students’ well being will always be a priority.”
In the past 24 hours, Pakistan recorded its highest daily increase in coronavirus cases since December 18 and also the first time that daily new cases crossed the 3,000 mark since that date.
Data issued by the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) showed that 3,097 people tested positive for COVID-19 across the country on January 13, raising the national tally to 511,921.
