Danny Ramirez’s exit from The Last Of Us sparked a new fan debate, comparing his Marvel commitments to Pedro Pascal’s.

The 33-year-old actor, who appeared in four episodes of the show as a member of the Fireflies under the name Manny Alvarez, has officially left the third season as news of the renewal was confirmed.

Ramirez had to pass on this project due to scheduling conflicts, as he will not be able to film the third season of the HBO hit.

The recast news isn’t just an update, but becomes a flashpoint for long-standing frustration with game design and pacing and the long-term direction of the show.

Reddit users have argued about important issues connected to the Ramirez redraft and what it means for The Last of Us Season 3:

Was the recasting avoidable or a design failure?

Many fans believe the showrunners should have anticipated the scheduling conflicts before casting Ramirez.

“They should have had the foresight to do this by not throwing someone who has already sold his soul into a miracle contract,” wrote one.

Critics argue that it was poor foresight to cast an up-and-coming MCU actor in a major supporting role that requires heavy filming.

Others push back, saying that actors shouldn’t be blamed for big career opportunities and that it comes down to production planning.

Why is this different from Pedro Pascal’s Marvel work?

Much of the discussion centers on comparisons to the Chilean-American actor who is also in the MCU.

One side says the 50-year-old actor’s situation isn’t comparable because his character is already dead on the show, with most of the flashbacks already filmed.

The other side argues that Marvel commitments can still complicate availability, but most agree that Pedro’s role doesn’t require the same level of continuous filming as Manny.

Additionally, fans familiar with the game are worried because Season 3 is expected to heavily follow Abby’s storyline, where Manny is a major character.

Its recast raises concerns about continuity, immersion and emotional impact, especially since Seasons 2 and 3 are said to overlap in timeline.
