Islamabad:

China’s Xinning Enterprise has signed a letter of intentions (LOI) with the GWADAR Port Authority (GPA) to launch important industrial and commercial companies at the port of Gwadar and its free zone, marking a key step in enhancing the role of GWADAR as regional trade and economic hub.

According to an official statement, Loi was signed on Tuesday by Yi Jiang, who represents Xinning Enterprise and received from Umer Zaffar Shaikh, an additional Secretary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, on behalf of GPA President Noorul Haq Baloch, who joined Zoom.

The proposed projects include the development of Gwadar as a regional transport center, the launch of industrial initiatives, the relocation of industries and the upgrading of free zone facilities. The statement stated that these efforts are part of a broader push for attracting foreign investment and enhancing port performance.

The statement adds that the Chinese business delegation, led by Yi Jiang, who is also director of the Chinese Chinese Federation of Industry and Trade (ACFIC), also held a meeting with Federal Minister of Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.

The minister praised the agreement as a milestone that reinforces the strategic importance of Gwadar. He said that Xinning Enterprise’s participation could significantly improve port movement, stimulate investment and promote regional economic growth. Both parties agreed to work in the context of the Pakistani regulatory framework and to continue discussions to identify specific investment opportunities, complete the operational details and create cooperation mechanisms.

The Minister of Shipping reiterated the government’s determination to make Gwadar a world sea portal and an industrial hub, adding that partnerships with reliable world businesses will help to implement Pakistan’s maritime and economic objectives.
