Cannoli by Cafe Soul’s snobbish owners “appalled” by public reaction to manager’s humiliation

ISLAMABAD: Cannoli by Cafe Soul’s owners, Uzma Chaudhry and Dia Haider who humiliated their manager over his English speaking skills have said that they are “appalled” by the public reaction to their snooty behaviour.

In a video which has now gone viral on social media and has drawn ire from millions of Pakistanis across the world, the owners can be seen mocking their manager and justifying their behaviour simply because they were “bored”.

Speaking in a fake American accent, Uzma Chaudhry further mocked her manager by saying that she paid him a good salary and this is what she got.

Commenting on the development, historian and activist Ammar Ali Jan said: “Cannoli video reveals culture of treating workers as servants. Its true at homes, factories, schools, restaurants & other work places. Labor laws guarantee job protection, decent wage & right to unionize. Dignity of labor impossible w/o granting legal protections to all workers.”

Despite severe criticism on social media, Cafe Soul issued a public statement saying that they were appalled by the public’s reaction to their antics.

Instead of apologising to the manager for humiliating him for their own pleasure, the owners of Cafe Soul said: “We are not required to prove or defend ourselves as kind employers. Our team has been with us for a decade, that should speak for itself.”

They further stated that the video depicted the “gup shup” between them as a team but social media users did not buy this argument, asking for a proper apology to the manager.

Commenting on the controversy, Reham Khan said: “Utterly disgusted. Whoever these wannabee Americans are I am sure Owais Sb speaks his own language beautifully. The pseudo elite need to be taught grace & etiquette that graceful ladies must learn before learning a foreign language.”

Both Cafe Soul and Ms Uzma Chaudhry were asked for their version but they did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
