Pakistan plans to use the surplus of electricity to mining bitcoin in an effort to expand digital economic activity and increase currency profits, officials say.

The country’s total capacity of electricity is 46,000 megawatts, significantly exceeds demand. In the summer, energy consumption reaches 26,000 megawatts, while in the winter it falls to just 10,000 megawatts.

Due to seasonal fluctuations in the use of electricity, the government aims to divert surrender to Bitcoin mining. According to the plan, 2,000 megawatts of electricity will be allocated for this purpose.

Employees say the initiative will provide a source of income without relying on imports and help to strengthen foreign stocks.

The government, in collaboration with the private sector, will develop Bitcoin mining as part of the broader strategy of “digital Pakistan”.

Authorities say that the move will generate state revenue and create youth employment opportunities through the creation of modern data centers.

The best use of the capacity of independent energy producers (IPPs) will also support the stability of the National Electricity Network, according to the plan.

Earlier, the government announced that it was distributed 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity during the first phase of a national initiative to mining bitcoin and AI data centers, the Treasury said.

The distribution is part of the government’s plans to use the surplus of electricity in Bitcoin mining and AI data centers.

The country’s energy sector faces the challenges, including high electricity invoices and the capacity of surpluses.

The rapid expansion of solar energy further complicates the landscape, as more consumers are turning to alternative energy to mitigate high costs.

The initiative is a pioneer by the Pakistani encryption council (PCC), a government backed by the government, which is part of a wider strategy for creating a surplus of electricity, creates high -tech jobs and attracts foreign investment, the ministry said.

Distribution is the first phase of a broader, multi -stage digital infrastructure, he added.
