Babar Azam dealt with a tense exchange with a journalist during a press conference of HBL PSL captains, defending his decision to remain silent in the recent bad performance of Pakistan’s Cricket.
The former Captain of Pakistan was visibly frustrated after being asked if he would only speak when Pakistan Kricket was “finished”.
The question followed a series of frustrating results, including Trophy Champions and a recent 0-3 ODI defeat in New Zealand.
In response to the challenge line, Babar said:
“Jaha Mujhe Bolna Hoga, Waha Main Bolta Hu. Aur Main Media Pe Baithke Nahi Bolunga Ki Kya Karna Chahiye. Hain.”
(Where I have to talk, I’m talking, I don’t have to sit in the media to say what needs to be done. If something needs to be said, I say it behind closed doors, I will not come here and do a scene in the social media.
The exchange took place just a few days before the start of Pakistan’s 10 Super League season, where Babar will lead Peshawar Zalmi. Zalmi is going to face Quetta Gladiators on Saturday, April 12, at Rawalpindi.
The reporter’s question mentioned the recent Pakistani format, including a 1-4 T20i series in New Zealand. Although he was the top scorer on the foot on the foot ODI with 129 runs in three races, Babar fell for the T20IS – a move that also recalled the discussion between fans and analysts.
Babar’s reaction reflects broader frustrations about how public persons are expected to comment on national issues. While some of the social media applauded the temper of the beat, others discussed whether his answer showed a lack of accountability.
With the HBL PSL 10 starting April 11, the Babar focus is now shifting to the top Zalmi through a strong campaign.
Peshwar Zalmi will launch their campaign on April 12 against Quetta Gladiators.
