Women’s Political Participation in Pakistan: From Benazir Bhutto to Today
The participation of women in Pakistani politics has been a journey on its own. It has been marked by significant struggles, milestones and setbacks since independence in 1947. In the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Report 2023, Pakistan ranks near the bottom, placing it 142nd out of 146 countries representing a stark gender gap in Pakistani politics. Pakistan’s women constitute to near half of the population but their share in the parliament is merely 20 percent.
