Iran, Russia launch new rail and river routes to boost trade
Iran and Russia have launched two major transportation projects, the “Ulyanovsk-Astara” rail route and the “Volga-Caspian Sea” river corridor, aimed at increasing trade between the two nations. The projects are expected to reduce transit times from 21 days to just seven, making trade faster and more cost-effective. The launch ceremony was attended by officials from Iran, Russia, India, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Iraq. The projects are set to play a key role in strengthening Iran-Russia trade ties, with trade volume between Iran and Ulyanovsk already increasing by 76% in the first nine months of 2024.
