Aseefa Bhutto, Maryam Nawaz lead PDM Multan rally in a display of ‘girl power’ in Pakistan’s politics

MULTAN: In a stunning display of ‘girl power’, Mohtarma Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif are leading the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rally in Multan, with their caravans reaching close to the site for the temporary Jalsa gah.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s and Mian Iftikhar Hussain are also leading their own caravans representing JUI-F (Jamiat Ulema Islam – Fazlur Reham) and ANP (Awami National Party) and are getting close to the venue.

Earlier, the Multan Administration had not allowed permission for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to hold this jalsa on the occasion of their Youm-e-Tasees but later on, it has been learnt that IG Punjab, Inam Ghani has allowed all PDM workers to move forward with their leaders.

The Jalsa was initially scheduled to be held in Qasim Bagh Stadium but due to a government crackdown, that venue could not be secured.

The sons of Yousaf Raza Gilani, Syed Kasim Gilani and Syed Musa Gilani were arrested in the backdrop of the jalsa in a move that was criticised across the board.

The PPP is hosting the Jalsa which will be attended by all parties belonging to the PDM. The PDM is a coalition of major opposition parties including the PMLN, the PPP, the ANP, the JUIF and various other opposition parties.
