ISLAMABAD: Osman Khalid Butt filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, challenging the acquittal of slain social media star Qandeel Baloch’s brother in her murder case.
According to the details, Barrister Khadija Siddiqui moved the petition on Butt’s behalf under Article 184(3) of the constitution, requesting the SC to reject the LHC’s verdict and restore the trial court’s verdict declaring him a convict.
A Multan model court had earlier convicted Waseem in 2019 and sentenced him to life in prison after he was found guilty of killing Baloch. Waseem said he killed his sister in the name of honour.
He was acquitted after serving a period of less than six years in jail.
Butt’s petition stated that Waseem had been acquitted on the basis of “compromise”. It added that the principle of fasad-fil-arz (mischief on earth) – covered under Section 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code – was applicable in the matter as it was a case of honor killing.
